BACKGROUND
  • The BSC was established in 1996 and is located in Pietermaritzburg.
  • It serves municipilities in the greater Pietermaritzburg area including uMsunduzi, uMngeni, Impendle and Richmond. BSC is expected to cover the whole UMgungundlovu district with an estimated population of 930,000.
  • BSC's mission is to link enterprises to business opportunities in the mainstream economy through the provision of a one-stop developement and support facility.
  • Perhaps the pinnacle of the BSC's efforts is the number of jobs that are being created everyday as a result of tendors won private and public sectors, as well as through business linkages and loan facilitation.
  • Admittedly some of these jobs are short term in nature but they do provide food to many families during their tenure.
  • At present the BSC registers on average 200 new businesses and provides business skills training to more than 500 entrepreneurs a year.
